Tuomas Tahko

Tuomas Tahko (Principal Investigator) is Reader in Metaphysics of Science at The University of Bristol. Tahko did his PhD at Durham University under E.J. Lowe’s supervision, graduating in 2008. Since then he has been a Research Fellow at Durham and the University of Helsinki and a University Lecturer at Helsinki, before coming to Bristol in 2018. Tahko has also held visiting appointments at the eidos Centre in Metaphysics of the University of Geneva, NYU, UNC-Chapel Hill, University of Reading, University of Toronto, and the Centre for Time at University of Sydney.

Tahko is best known for his work in contemporary analytic metaphysics, with an emphasis on methodological and epistemic issues: 'meta-metaphysics'. He has also long worked at the interface of metaphysics and philosophy of science: 'metaphysics of science'. Tahko is the author of An Introduction to Metametaphysics (CUP, 2015) and editor of Contemporary Aristotelian Metaphysics (CUP, 2012) as well as numerous articles in metaphysics, philosophy of science, and philosophical logic. Currently, he is working on a monograph on The Unity of Science, which is under contract for CUP’s new Elements series.
